Sera Engineering provided design of the HVAC core and shell systems for this new 14 story laboratory/office building.

From schematic design through construction documents, Sera Engineering guided the design process to achieve an HVAC system which is both highly efficient and extremely flexible.

University City Science Center

Sera Engineering provided whole building energy analysis and planning for the new Science Innovation Hub located at 3675 Market Street in Philadelphia. From pre-schematic design through construction documents, Sera Engineering worked closely with the design architects to guide the design process to reduce energy consumption. Additionally, Sera Engineering was engaged to provide fit out design for three floors of laboratory and office tenants.  The result is a high performance, low carbon, energy efficient building.

School of Medicine

Sera Engineering was engaged to provide HVAC design for this new mRNA Institute for the School of Medicine on the 3rd floor of One uCity. The lab includes an open wet lab area, tissue culture rooms, fume hood areas, procedure rooms, offices and lounge/conference areas.

ON CALL ENGINEERING SERVICES

Sera Engineering has provided MEP/FP on call engineering design services for the University of Pennsylvania for the past  7 years.

Working throughout the campus, Sera Engineering has completed numerous renovation and infrastructure upgrade projects in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, the Annenberg School and the Wharton School.

Sera Engineering’s team provided MEP/FP design and construction administration services for this community health center for Esperanza Health including fitness facilities, treatment rooms, community meeting rooms and large event spaces.

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

HOSPITAL RENOVATION PROJECT

Sera Engineering has provided MEP/FP design services for a variety of projects across the hospital campus. From cardio/thoracic operating room renovations, to MRI suite renovations,  to medical office renovations to infrastructure upgrades Sera Engineering has provided designs allowing for continued facilities operations while upgrading old or poorly functioning systems.

PEER DESIGN REVIEW

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has engaged Sera Engineering to perform design reviews for multiple large-scale projects. Sera Engineering provided design review of MEP/FP systems from schematic design through construction documents for the new 300,000 square foot King of Prussia Inpatient Hospital, a new 35,000 square foot Specialty Pharmacy facility, and a 44,000 square foot renovation and expansion of the existing Main hospital inpatient bed facility.

New Magnetic Bearing, Oil Free Chillers

Sera Engineering was engaged to design a state-of-the-art chiller plant to replace the aging plant serving the 300,000 square foot office building at One Evertrust Plaza.  The plant utilizes high efficiency magnetic bearing, oil free centrifugal chillers in a variable primary arrangement to significantly reduce the building energy use. 

University of Pennsylvania

STRATEGIC ENERGY PLANNING

The University of Pennsylvania’s strategic energy group continually looks for new ways to reduce energy consumption. Sera Engineering was engaged to assess the efficacy of utilizing steam microturbines across the Penn campus.  The microturbines would allow the university to produce electricity on site while simultaneously reducing incoming steam pressure to usable levels.  The technology, utilized in the most steam intensive buildings, will yield both a financial and environmental benefit to the university.

Sera Engineering was engaged to provide the full scope of LEED consulting services for a new 180,000 square foot building at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The building owner is hoping to achieve LEED gold certification for this project.

Gwynedd Friends Meeting

Gwynedd, PA

CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION

Sera Engineering was commissioned by the Gwynedd Society of Friends to provide a campus master plan aimed at energy conservation and reduction of the use of fossil fuels to reduce the campus carbon footprint.  Energy conservation measures along with geothermal heat pumps and on-site photovoltaic panels would enable the meeting to significantly reduce energy use, render the largest buildings on campus carbon neutral, and achieve a 70% reduction in the overall campus carbon footprint.

New high efficiency chiller and boiler plants were key to driving down energy use and enabled the hospital to achieve LEED Silver Certification.

Numerous options for onsite energy generation were investigated including wind turbines, photovoltaic and gas fired cogeneration plant.
